Brief Description

Labour Behind the Label (LBL) supports garment workers' efforts worldwide in improving working conditions and ensuring human rights are respected. Through partnership with workers and membership of the Clean Clothes Campaign, our campaigns promote solutions to human rights violations,
 designed by workers. This includes urgent appeal cases in factories where we intervene to support workers in lobbying brands, using international pressure to get human rights restored, and also collaborative research calling for change

Vision & Mission

Vision: The distribution of power in the clothing industry is transformed, so that the rights of people at work and in the community are respected.

Mission: We support garment workers' demands, through strategic actions aimed at those involved in the production, marketing and consumption of clothing, as part of the movement for global justice.

Aims & Activities

We achieve success in our work through solidarity with workers, trade unions and NGOs in producer countries; lobbying of retailers and brands; promoting direct action; and the research of legal possibilities for improving conditions. We hold brands and governments to account and produce research to influence policy. We focus on promoting the rights of workers and pushing for living wages, transparency in supply chains and health and safety for workers.

Facts & Figures

                            LBL plays a vital role in looking to the systemic change that is needed in the global garment industry, and taking these demands to major clothing brands head quartered in the UK. We don’t try to just prop up systems and resolve individual issues, but we work with others on the systemic problems and seek change.

We take our lead from workers and their organisations and advocate directly for their demands, rather than trying to find our own solutions. Labour Behind the Label is part of the Clean Clothes Campaign network, with member and partner organisations globally, and this movement is our strength and our guide. The network relies on our role in the UK to act as a contact point to lobby brands, their organisations, and decision makers in the UK. Where brands have sought to distance themselves from working conditions and human rights violations in their supply chains, we make connections between workers and the economic beneficiaries of their struggle and ask them to act.
